Kickstart Your Health

Have you tried counting calories to lose weight only to lose interest and not pounds? In Kickstart, it is not about restricting the  amount of food but rather choosing the right foods for losing weight and staying healthy. In addition, following a whole-food plant-based diet brings with it clinical benefits such as lower cholesterol, better diabetes control, and lower blood pressure, as well as improvements in energy and mood. This course covers all you need to know to transition to or improve adherence to a healthy diet, including  meal planning and preparation of  foods which are natural appetite suppressants. The goal is to make weight loss an effortless journey to health.

Food and Gut Health

Suffering from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), diverticulitis or a “leaky gut”? Have you considered the benefits of a plant based diet? Inflammation is a cause in many of these maladies. Fruits and vegetables are anti-inflammatory. Studies show a dramatic improvement in symptoms related to irritable bowel syndrome and other intestinal disorders, after adopting a plant-based diet. In this course, you’ll learn how to prepare simple and healthy dishes that are high in fiber and improve overall gut health.

Nutrition Essentials

This program presents an engaging and effective way to help you reach your weight-loss and overall health goals.  It is based on scientific studies and favors vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains. In this class you will receive practical tips to build a healthy lifestyle.

Power Foods for the Brain

A decline in brain health is not an inevitable part of aging. But how we eat and live can help us protect our memory and stay sharp into old age. Plant-based foods are beneficial to the brain and may help prevent Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Research shows saturated and trans fats found in dairy products, meats, pastries, and fried foods can increase the risk for cognitive decline. Instead, eat a plant-based diet, which helps protect brain health. Berries and foods rich in vitamin E, including nuts, seeds, leafy greens, and whole grains are especially beneficial. Take a B12 supplement to preserve nerve function. In this class you will learn how to prepare many whole-food plant based recipes with simple and common ingredients that can improve your brain and overall health.

 Food For Life Testimonials

“I really enjoyed the class – thank you again!  And all these recipes you sent! AMAZING!  I am so excited – you renewed my enthusiasm!  My surgery went well – and a lot of it stems from the diabetes, so with these new recipes, I know I can tackle this beast!”

– Diana, South Suburbs, Chicago

“Mark gave me 100% individualized attention and answered all my questions about cooking, foods, etc. He was terrific: super knowledgeable, enthusiastic, genial, so eager to see me succeed”.

-Betty, Bay Area, California

“I began taking the Food for Life classes a year ago. Simply put, these classes have been a life changer for me… Because of information that I was given following my diabetes diagnosis in 2011, I was too focused on carbs and not at all focused on fats… it never occurred to me as a diabetic to be reading the food labels for fat. Now it is second nature to me. Since early February, when I began in earnest to eliminate fat from my diet and increase my fiber, I have lost eight pounds. But more importantly, I feel great!”

– Steve, lowered A1C and reduced medications
